Speaking
People are fascinated by the psychology that explains why some risks feel more frightening than others, and why our fears so often don’t seem to match the facts. With humor and active audience participation, David offers people a look inside the subconscious systems we all use to make sense of the risks we face. As a former reporter, David makes the science that helps explain the origins of our fears clear, interesting, and relevant. Any one who attends his presentations leaves both entertained and more informed about how they and the people they deal with perceive risk. David has been the keynote speaker at major conferences of trade associations, professional organizations, medical societies, and scientific organizations. He has spoken before groups of government employees at all levels. He has lectured at many colleges and universities, both in the U.S. and abroad. He has advised senior business managers and employees, in groups ranging in size from 20 to 2,000.
Advising
Understanding risk perception is a powerful tool for all forms of risk management, including but not limited to communication. Understanding in advance how people are likely to react to an action, decision or communication helps an organization act more intelligently, and with greater success. We have advised organizations worldwide dealing with many risk management circumstances.
We provide both strategic and tactical advice about crises you may be facing. We offer a Risk Issues Inventory to help you identify issues where proactive planning can help avert potential crises and controversies. We help develop communication plans so mechanisms and messages are in place should an unforeseen problem arise. We offer consulting input on policies under consideration and advise on upcoming events like public hearings and public meetings. And of course we advise on all stakeholder communications, including the general public, media, regulators, and investors.
